The 18 months following Yasmin Kiddle’s debut release has seen non-stop progression, seemingly creating the blueprint for a breakthrough year. Firstly, Yasmin landed a support slot on the Ocean Colour Scene national tour in December 2018, opening for Martha Reeves and performing in prestigious venues such as the SSE Hydro in Glasgow and the Olympia Theatre in Dublin.
Yasmin’s second EP, ‘Soul Tide’, was released right after another national tour with Ocean Colour Scene as official support in Scotland, July 2019. Continuing the excitement, Yasmin received an invitation to record at Spotify’s Secret Genius London studio, which led to her next single ‘Sometimes’. Soon after, BBC Introducing picked up on Yasmin’s debut single ‘Turn Me Out’, which was added to their BBC Sounds Hot List in November 2019. Currently a Isle Of White 'New Blood' competition quarter-finalist, the list of successes continues to grow.
Hailing from Greek Cypriot roots and growing up in North London, music is the constant in Yasmin’s life. With no formal teaching she mastered guitar and piano, while her desire to express through writing began at the age of only 7. Going on to study performance and tech at college, Yasmin learnt to produce her own songs and began to record her own music in a makeshift bedroom studio.
Musically her influences come from two unlikely worlds, classic 60’s rock and soul, fused with the modern grime, RnB and electronic genres have resulted in melodic, soothing songwriting and honest, touching story telling.
In 2017 Yasmin was introduced to Steve Cradock (Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller, The Specials). Instantly upon hearing her ability on guitar and strength of her voice, Steve invited her to his personal studio in Devon. Never failing to impress with her natural aptness for songwriting, work ethic and raw talent, Yasmin’s tracks were shared with Paul Weller, which led to the incredible experience of studio time at Weller’s Black Barn Studio for her debut EP.
The ease with which Yasmin is associating herself with the UK’s most talented musicians is a natural validation of her ability. As if Cradock & Weller aren’t enough for the first 18 months of a young musicians career, her latest single 'Always Come Around', which is out now, has a cello score written by Emmy nominated composer Hannah Peel.
